Volunteering with girls in a unit means planning regular unit meetings, facilitating girl-driven programming, and creating a safe space for laughter, creativity and confidence building. You’ll be an influential part of girls' lives as you lead them through fun activities, outdoor adventures, community service projects, Girl Guide cookie sales and more.
Each unit meeting lasts between 1-2 hours, depending on the age of the girls. Meetings usually include a mix of fun program activities such as games, crafts, science experiments, singing, baking, or anything else you and the girls in your unit wish to try! Our program platform provides a library of fun activities for each age group to explore and earn badges.
You’ll be supported every step of the way with training on everything from girl safety and administration to diversity and inclusion. Our new Guider training and mentorship programs are designed specifically for volunteers during their first year with Girl Guides.
Units usually meet on a weekly basis from September through to May or June. Volunteers commit to 3 hours per week of unit planning and meetings, plus additional hours, when required, for planning and facilitating trips or events. When the outcome is a better world, by girls it's worth your time.
At a minimum there are two volunteers for every unit. Volunteers work together to plan and facilitate fun activities for girls each week.
No prior Guiding experience is required, just a desire to be part of our vision of a better world, by girls!
After you’ve submitted your application form , you’ll go through a short screening process which includes a brief interview, Police Records Check and references, and asked to complete an online risk management module. Read more about the steps we take before safely placing you in a volunteer role.
